I planted soft-neck garlic in grow bags using FoxFarm potting mix for the first time. I mixed in leftover grow-bag mix, some lime, pumice, bone meal, azomite, and a 4-3-3 granular fertilizer. I spread the leftover fertilizer mix\u2014about two cups\u2014around the rest of the garden, roughly a tablespoon per plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I soaked the garlic cloves in distilled water with hydrogen peroxide for about an hour. Four cloves went into the 10-gallon bag and five into the 15-gallon bag. I topped them with an inch of Black Kow compost. I’ll add another inch tomorrow and give everything a round of fish fertilizer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also removed the eggplant from the left strawberry patch and planted garlic there. On the arch, I untied the pumpkin vine and moved the large pumpkin onto a small table for better support. Connecticut Field pumpkins can hit 25 pounds, so this variety wasn’t the best choice for an arch.
