Today I fertilized tomatoes in grow bags and in-ground with a tablespoon or two of 50/50 Trifecta and Bonemeal. I used the same very lightly on the south side wildflower strip, and here and there in the south and southwest planter. Then I fertilized with fish fertilizer all potatoes, leafy greens, and stuff growing in 1-gallon pots. I skipped fertilizing carrots, beans, and peas.
I am pleasantly surprised that the tomato plants are producing fruit that is growing and in some cases turning red all the way into December. I wonder how they will taste. The cherry tomato, which was definitely the most prolific plant, has been trimmed back quite a bit. I wanted it to focus on ripening up what I thought would be a last batch before it got too cold. But now it’s showing some new green growth and even new tomatoes. I’ll let it keep going to see what happens as it gets even cooler.
