What’s the most amount of dirt you’ve ever moved? I moved 10,000 lbs in three days with a gorilla cart and a shovel. I’m 47 by the way. Father-in-law and my son helped, especially for the last few carts.
Alena and I bought some raised beds from Epic Gardening, configured them in 4×3’s, and filled them with 70/30 mix of topsoil/compost form our local nursery. We also filled most of the brick-bound beds along the fences, and a few spots on the retaining slope. With the nursery’s 5-yard minimum, we have plenty of soil to spare. I’ll use it to reshape some parts of the lawn and hill.
I also bought drip irrigation kits from dripdepot.com – some of the best Youtube tutorials I have seen. Jesse helped me set it up, our first time installing any kind of irrigation. Uncle John offered advice on hammer arrestors and general plumbing practices. I’m very proud of the setup.
I transplanted basil, parsley, and tomato plants to the beds, leaving a big space for the pumpkin I’ll plant in a couple of weeks to grow over the arch again.

The lemon tree is adjusting to be being potted up from 4.5 gallons to 15. The Jalapenos are coming along. The lizards are getting much more active again. In the last photo, you see what White Daikon Radish plants look like when they go to flower.
