Early January Prep

I have two trays of seedlings I’ve started hardening off this week. Both of these were done with re-used potting mix, and the results have been mid. Part of that though is I oversaturated them with water a couple of times early on. Using bottom watering, I left them sitting in it too long. I’ve since corrected that mistake, increased airflow, and lined the tops of the cells with vermiculite to discourage fungi etc.

I also got some shelving so that my seedling setup has a place not under my desk, which has been very nice so far.

The catnip, lavender, and peppermint I started end of October is looking good, but I think it’s still too cool to harden those off for outside. Planning to keep them inside for another couple of months.

Also this week I made Albondigas soup, a favorite of mine, and I got to use recently harvested potatoes and cilantro. Small thing, but I am proud to use food I’ve grown.

Lastly, I started a new compost pile yesterday. The previous one should be completely ready in a couple of months for Spring prep.
